COALESCENCE

Annette Jannotta & Olivia Ting (2016)
Installed: January 22, 2016 - March 4, 2017
Civic Center: 401 Van Ness Avenue

Coalescence was installed at the San Francisco Art Commission (SFAC) in celebration of the complex and intensive renovation of the historic War Memorial Veteran's Building. The artists repurposed numerous cardboard tubes (packaging for the new lighting grid) from the construction process into a spatial experience, projecting recomposed and collected imagery that they filmed throughout the building onto the fragmented "cloud.” The curated projections narrated the history of the building and area through the slivered lens of spatial memory and reassembly of fragments of the building's character.

Artists: Media artist Olivia Ting's interest in visual communication as a storytelling vehicle about the human condition inspired her to found Olivetinge, an organization that seeks to examine the role of digital technology in the fabric of contemporary lives, rearranging how our memories are collected and formulated in our consciousness. She was commissioned to design a permanent video projection exhibit for part of Oakland Museum of California’s Natural History Gallery. Architect Annette Jannotta designs for award-winning firms in Los Angeles, Singapore and San Francisco, including her own small-projects studio, SPACEFLAVOR. She is a licensed architect in California, an NCIDQ certified interior designer, LEED AP ID&C, and a member of IIDA Northern California..
